Palacio de la Glorieta

Palacio de La Glorieta in the old city of Sucre is an architectural sight included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Palacio de la Glorieta or Castillo de la Glorieta was built in 1897 by the order of Don Francisco Argandon and his wife Clotilde. Argandon was the owner of silver mines in Potosí. He even has his bank. Besides, he was the ambassador of Bolivia in Russia and France. So, he had a lot of money, and the construction of a luxury house was not so hard. 

Despite the tendency to the purity of styles in the 19th century, this palace has it all: old ideas are combining with modern trends, minimalism mixes with pretentiousness. The romantic Epoque is presented by octagonal turrets and high minaret with a dome. The walls are made in the mannerism, baroque and rococo styles. Here you can find Gothic and neoclassical elements. In other words, this is an unusual eclectic house and the best sight for inhabitants of the city.

One of the features of Palacio de la Glorieta, Castillo de la Glorieta is an abundance of towers. Here are three of them: the 40-meter Prince Tower, 30-meter Princess Tower, and 25-meter tower – a copy of London's Big Ben.

The palace is surrounded by a beautiful garden. Here you can find small gazebos, fountains, and artificial lakes.  To bring some joy, people even decorated some paths with small sculptures.

Inside the Palacio de la Glorieta, there are 40 spacious and bright rooms. Surprisingly, some furniture and interior items were left in many halls. They belonged to the first owners. Such treasures were not even preserved in some private European houses.

For a long time, Palacio de la Glorieta, Castillo de la Glorieta was used as a building of a military academy. And now, here is a museum open to visitors.
