The main attraction of Curitiba is undoubtedly the Oscar Niemeyer Museum. It is the largest art museum in Latin America, since its area is about 35 thousand square meters, and its exhibition space is more than 17 thousand square meters. The building was designed in 1967 and opened in 1978. Originally it housed the Edifício Presidente Humberto Castelo Branco.

The exhibition space was opened in 2002. Then it was called the New Museum. In 2003, its area was expanded and named after the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer, who built it.

The informal name of the museum is "Niemeyer's eye" because of its unusual 30-meter reinforced concrete extension. The building itself is an exhibit. There are many typical elements of Oscar Niemeyer: bold geometric shapes, sculptural curved volumes, winding ramps, large areas of white-painted concrete with rare bright frescoes and paintings.

The museum specializes in fine art, architecture, and design: there are more than seven thousand artworks in total! The Oscar Niemeyer Museum has held more than 350 national and international exhibitions. There are 12 exhibition halls. And also, more than 20 exhibitions are held there every year. Together they attract more than 360 thousand visitors. In general, the museum is one of the most visited attractions in Brazil.

Expositions are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum organizes guided tours as well as various educational events: seminars, lectures, and even entire courses! By the way, the building has a convenient ramp and elevator.
